Ecuador internal conflict: Return to classrooms will be progressive

QUITO, Jan 20 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Ministry of Education of Ecuador announced that the return to classrooms will be progressive, after almost two weeks of suspension of on-site academic activities due to the wave of violence here.

In a press release, the Ministry said that in the provinces of Guayas, Esmeraldas and Los Ríos, as well as in the canton of Pedernales and the Metropolitan District of Quito, the virtual mode will be maintained.

The Ministry of Education informed that it carried out an assessment of risks and conditions, fiscal, fiscal-commissioned, private and municipal of each territory, to define the return to on-site classes of 8,176 educational institutions throughout the country, .

Recently, the minister of the sector, Daniel Calderón, detailed that the return to school would depend on the security situation since there are 1,600 educational establishments that are up to two kilometers away from the centers of deprivation of liberty.

Calderon also referred to the creation of peace corridors and direct surveillance in certain educational units.
