Dutch police seize “largest haul of ketamine ever”

THE HAGUE, Jan 20 (NNN-XINHUA) — Dutch police said that a record 2,000 kilos of ketamine, “the largest haul of the drug ever,” has been seized in an operation.

The raid was made on Jan. 4 in the small village of Muiderberg, 20 km from Amsterdam, where boxes filled with the white powder were found in a shed near a house, according to the police.

A 55-year-old man at the house was arrested and the police are investigating his role in this case.

The 2,000 kilos has an estimated total street value of almost 55 million euros (60 million U.S. dollars), police said.

Ketamine is not banned in the Netherlands, but it may not be traded unregistered, and possession of large quantities is prohibited.

Despite a pain-relieving medicine, ketamine has become popular as a party drug in recent years. — NNN-XINHUA
