Chad to recruit 8,000 police officers, gendarmes to beef up security: PM Masra

N’DJAMENA, Jan 19 (NNN-XINHUA) — Chad will recruit 8,000 police officers and gendarmes as part of its efforts to beef up security, Prime Minister Succes Masra said.

Masra made the announcement in the capital of N’Djamena while presenting the government’s political and socio-economic program to the National Transition Council.

“A recruitment of 8,000 police, gendarmerie and agents of the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad is planned to strengthen the ratio of the minimum number of internal security agents per population,” he said.

“The government will continue to work to support the mixed security commissions for the city of N’Djamena and in provincial capitals while strengthening civilian disarmament operations,” the prime minister added.

Chad will reinforce the technical, tactical and operational capacities of commissioners and gendarmerie commanders, and create a national police hospital as well as a national police academy to fight organized crime, terrorism and kidnappings, he said. — NNN-XINHUA
