At least 21 people died in a gold mine collapse in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, Jan 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least 21 miners were killed and several others missing after a gold mine in the Simiyu region in northern Tanzania collapsed following heavy rain in the morning, Yahaya Nawanda, commissioner of the Simiyu region, said.

According to Nawanda, efforts to recover more bodies suspected to be trapped in thea collapsed mine in Bariadi district are being hindered by continuous heavy rains. 

“Rescue work had to stop for a while because of the rain,” the official said.

According to information, the mine collapsed at 5 a.m. burying miners whose exact number has not been determined. 

Nawanda said most of the victims were young men between the ages of 25 and 35. — NNN-AGENCIES
