ISLAMABAD, Jan 13 (NNN-APP) – A policeman was injured in a shoot-out by unknown gunmen, in Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province, police officials said, yesterday.
According to the police, unknown people riding on a motorcycle opened fire at the policeman, appointed on the security of polio workers in the Eastern Bypass area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan province.
Police said, the perpetrators fled the scene after carrying out the attack, adding that, an operation has been started in the area to arrest the culprits.
Police said that, other members of the polio team remained safe in the firing incident.
The attack comes during a week-long campaign in Balochistan province, to administer the polio vaccination to approximately 2.6 million children under five years of age.
Earlier on Tuesday, two policemen deployed for polio duty were killed, and at least three others injured, during a gunfight with unidentified armed persons in Bannu district of the country’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.– NNN-APP
