LIMA, Jan 12 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Chairwoman of the Peruvian Foreign Trade Society (Comex-Peru), Julia Torreblanca, affirmed that since Peru joined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, trade with said region has increased eleven-fold.

Since we joined the forum, our trade with the (Asia-Pacific) region has grown 11-fold, which has directly impacted the quality of life of our citizens. The organization of APEC 2024 should be a great opportunity to continue strengthening these links for the benefit of all people,” she stated.

Torreblanca participated in the working breakfast with ambassadors accredited to Peruand diplomatic representatives of APEC member economies, with a view to holding the APEC 2024 summit in Peruvian territory next November.

“Peru is a country with deep-rooted ties to the Asia-Pacific region,” said Torreblanca, who also serves as APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) chair.

For his part, Fernando Zavala, Chairman of the APEC CEO Summit 2024, highlighted that APEC 2024 is a unique opportunity to give a fresh impetus to the Peruvian free trade agenda, the urgent attraction of private investment, and economic growth.

“But, above all, (it provides the opportunity) to improve the quality of life of all citizens, who are awaiting opportunities in a country that still has a lot of potential, he remarked.

The Chairman of Senior Officials’ Meetings at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum 2024, Carlos Vasquez, stated that APEC is an absolutely exceptional platform, because it brings together the most dynamic, interconnected, and largest economies (in terms of gross domestic product – GDP) in the world, such as the United States, China, and Japan.

“This opportunity must be fully exploited by Peru to promote a deepening of its economic ties, especially in terms of trade and investment with these economies, in a particularly complicated situation for the entire world, in which we are in a process of economic recovery,” he said.

The APEC is made up of: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.

Together, they account for 62% of world’s GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet’s population. — NNN-ANDINA
