ISLAMABAD, Jan 10 (NNN-APP) – At least two policemen were killed and two others injured, yesterday, during a terrorist attack in Bannu district of Pakistan’s north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Qasim Ali Khan, told media that, two gunmen opened fire at policemen assigned to safeguard health workers, deployed in the field for a polio vaccination campaign in Teri Ram area of Bannu.
Two of the policemen were injured in the firing, while one of the attackers also sustained injury from a gunshot in the retaliatory firing.
The injured terrorist and his companion entered a house to take shelter after local people started chasing them following the attack.
Rescue team, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a hospital.
Police and security forces cordoned off the house and asked the terrorists to surrender. However, the terrorists opened fire again and killed two policemen.
Later, police managed to arrest the two terrorists after an exchange of fire, added the police officer.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The police officer said that, the detained terrorists were shifted to an undisclosed location, and their identity would be released after interrogation.
On Monday, at least seven people were killed and 26 others injured, in a roadside bomb blast that hit a truck carrying policemen, to be deployed for security of polio campaign workers.– NNN-APP
