LIMA, Jan 9 (NNN-ANDNA) — The Peruvian Government approved the unlocking of important megaprojects and confirmed that it is prepared to deal with the possible effects of El Niño phenomenon.
Moreover, the Executive Branch has adopted protective measures in order to respond to a possible earthquake, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola said at a press conference after a Council of Ministers session held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital Lima.
“I want to reaffirm that the Government is fully prepared to address El Niño phenomenon, a seasonal weather event that is already impacting the country, and that State ministers are always willing to respond positively, through institutions and the allocated budget, to defend the population,” he remarked.
The megaprojects include the Alto Piura hydroelectric project that, according to the Prime Minister, will generate “tens of thousands of jobs and more than 40,000 new irrigated hectares” once the dossier is approved by the sectors of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, as well as Economy and Finance.
Another project includes the New Central Highway, which will benefit more than 1 million inhabitants and whose implementation will be possible after arrangements between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
Likewise, the projects related to the Works for Taxes mechanism for urban sanitation were reviewed.
“The aim is not only to achieve economic revival, but also to recover important engines that drive our economy such as the mining sector, the agro-export sector, and the service sector, as well as the tourism industry,” Otarola indicated. — NNN-ANDINA
