MEXICO CITY, Jan 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — An unidentified gunman opened fire at a cockfighting ring in Guerrero state, southern Mexico, killing at least 5 people and injuring dozens of others.
A source from Guerrero state authorities said that after firing at a group of people watching a cockfight in the coastal city of Petatlán in this state, the masked perpetrator quickly left, leaving behind the scene. The school was littered with dead bodies and injured people.
Authorities then arrived at the scene, providing first aid and taking the injured to the emergency room. However, because most emergency departments of hospitals in Petatlán city were full of beds, ambulances had to take victims to medical facilities in neighboring localities.
According to initial information, 5 people died at the scene, but the number of casualties may continue to increase because most of the injured are in critical condition. The Guerrero government requested local medical forces to focus all necessary resources to save the victims’ lives.
