DAMASCUS, Jan 8 (NNN-SANA) – An explosive device, planted by unidentified individuals, went off in Syria’s southern province of Daraa yesterday, causing multiple injuries among the residents, according to Daraa Police Command.
Cited by the state-run Syrian TV, the Daraa Police Command said, the explosion occurred in the Al-Matar Al-Kornish neighbourhood of Daraa. It added that, one of the wounded was a young girl, whose foot had to be amputated, as a result of the explosion.
The report did not identify the people responsible for the explosion.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian Interior Ministry said, a police officer was killed and another two wounded, in an ambush by unknown armed individuals, who attacked a police patrol on the Daraa highway near the city of Izraa.
The Daraa region, where the Syrian war originated in 2011, continues to be volatile, due to the presence of armed groups that frequently target government interests.– NNN-SANA
