Five Aboard Japan Coast Guard Aircraft Unaccounted For After Collision

TOKYO, Jan 3 (NNN-NHK) – One person aboard a Japan Coast Guard aircraft, colliding with a Japan Airlines plane, at Haneda Airport, was confirmed to have survived the incident yesterday, with the remaining five others currently unaccounted for, local media reported yesterday.

The coast guard plane was carrying relief goods for quake-hit areas in Niigata Prefecture, after a series of temblors of up to 7.6 magnitude struck central Japan on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, all 367 passengers and 12 crew members on board the Japan Airlines airplane, that was in flames, have evacuated.

The Japan Airlines Flight 516, heading from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido Prefecture to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, collided with the Japan Coast Guard aircraft after landing at Haneda Airport, the report said.

Firefighters are extinguishing the flames, it said.

Footage showed a large burst of fire erupted from the side of the Japan Airlines plane, as it taxied on the runway, and soon the fire engulfed the aircraft.

According to the transport ministry, Haneda Airport has shut down all runways, due to the aircraft collision.– NNN-NHK
