BRASILIA, Jan 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least 7 suspects were killed in a shooting between police and suspected members of a criminal gang in southern Brazil.

Local media reported from the military police force that the incident occurred in the early morning of Dec 31 in Parolin district in Curitiba, capital of Parana state (Southern).

Residents heard more than 50 gunshots and saw suspects running through the streets with large guns.

When the police arrived at the scene, a fierce gun battle broke out between the police and the alleged criminals.

Police found at the scene 10 weapons, two bulletproof vests, ammunition boxes for AK-47 guns and equipment to convert pistols into long-range guns.

According to local media, the shooting was initially caused by rival gangs fighting for control of local drug sales. — NNN-AGENCIES
