Sri Lanka Rules Out Tsunami Threat From Earthquake In Indian Ocean

COLOMBO, Dec 31 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka ruled out yesterday, a tsunami threat from the earthquake that took place in the Indian Ocean, off northern Sumatra, according to the National Tsunami Early Warning Centre (NTEWC).

The tsunami warning centre, initially asking people in the coastal areas of the country to be vigilant, declared these areas as safe, in its latest update.

In Sri Lanka, Dec 26 has been designated as the National Safety Day, to remember the victims of the deadly 2004 tsunami.– NNN-XINHUA
