Peru’s PM: 2024 will be year of economic relaunch and unblocking of major works

LIMA, Dec 31 (NNN-ANDINA) — .Prime Minister Alberto Otarola declared that 2024 will be the year of economic relaunch, citizen security, and the unlocking of major public works required by the country.

He affirmed that the Executive Branch has ordered the presence of more police agents on the streets nationwide, so that they can participate in integrated patrolling, along with officials from municipalities, and are closer to the population.

He stressed that this year an entire legal framework was structured to optimize the actions of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), so that it can directly investigate crime whenever people’s integrity is at risk, and then report it to a prosecutor.

“The protection of people’s integrity, plus the fight against organized crime and contract killings, are on the central agenda of President Boluarte and her Government,” he expressed. 

With this framework, Otarola referred to cell phone theft. He indicated that operations will be carried out every 15 days at establishments that host the commercialization of stolen devices.

Similarly, he underlined the creation of the 911 emergency center, the delivery of 500 patrol vehicles to the Peruvian National Police, and the budget increase for order and security purposes.

The prime minister announced that the probabilities of Peru facing a moderate El Niño phenomenon have been reduced from 57 to 37%, according to estimates by the Multisectoral Commission in Charge of the National Study of El Niño Phenomenon (Enfen), which is encouraging news. However, climatic event monitoring continues.

“We are preparing to face El Niño (phenomenon). We have nearly 800 machines ready to work on clearing; we invested more than S/7 billion (over US$1.901 billion); besides, we work with regional and local authorities,” he added.
