PIURA (Peru), Dec 30 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte affirmed that the new Talara Refinery denotes the largest development pole in Peru, adding that it will boost the call for new investments.
Attending the ceremony marking the start of the new Talara Refinery full operation in northern Piura region, she remarked that the new refinery “is a fact” and a future for all Peruvians.
“This is an essential mega project that strengthens our energy security, generating opportunities for the repowering of the hydrocarbon sector,” Boluarte expressed.
“The new refinery already produces gasoline, diesel, asphalt, liquefied petroleum gas, and other products, complying with high quality standards that guarantee its sustainability with the population and the environment,” she added.
The top official pointed out that its implementation goes hand-in-hand with the promotion of other large-scale works such as the repowering of PetroPeru, as well as the strengthening of its human resources and assets.
“Added to them are investments in the modernization and recovery of the Oleoducto Nor Peruano (Northern Peruvian Oil Pipeline) to restore the transportation of crude oil from the jungle,” she said.
The top official also indicated that, thanks to this new refinery, Peru will depend “less and less on imports and the game of international prices,” since it will be able to process up to 95,000 oil barrels per day so as to supply the entire Peru.
“This is one of the most modern deep conversion refineries on the southern Pacific coast and one of the nine refineries in the world that rely on a flexicoking technology unit,” Mrs. Boluarte expressed.
“This makes it one of the highest quality facilities in the world, with capacity to process crude oil residue and convert it into high-value products, such as gasoline, diesel, naphtha, and LPG,“ she added.
“We will continue advancing because my administration is on the side of all of you, calling for more responsible investment that respects the population and the environment so as to obtain greater canon, more royalties, and to strengthen opportunities for development and economic growth for Peruvian women and men,” Boluarte pointed out.
The new Talara Refinery will allow for greater production of clean fuels to supply them to the Peruvian north, center, south and east. Similarly, it will attract energy-hydrocarbon sector investments into the country.
“It is one of the highest-quality facilities around the world to process crude oil residue and convert it into gasoline, diesel, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),” President Dina Boluarte said.
“The refinery will be able to process up to 95,000 oil barrels per day to supply Peru. Its operation will contribute to the reduction of fuel imports,” she added.
Boluarte attended the ceremony marking the start of full operation at the new Talara Refinery. Now, it has 16 processing units, five packages of auxiliary units and complementary services, two liquid loading docks, 125 storage tanks, and an accredited laboratory, which provides results that rely on international validity.
“The projections are extremely positive, if we consider that the new Talara Refinery has provided benefits to the country, even before coming into operation,” the president noted.
“It contributed nearly S/6.5 billion (about US$1.759 billion) in Income Taxes and General Sales Taxes, generated 10,000 direct jobs, and 20,000 indirect jobs, boosting the local and regional economy,” she said.
The president also announced that investment will be made in the modernization of the Oleoducto Norperuano (Northern Peruvian Oil Pipeline) so as to restore the transportation of crude oil from the jungle, which will be achieved hand-in-hand with communities, as was already done to reactivate the operability of Block 192. — NNN-ANDINA
