Lethal violence marks long weekend festivities in Uruguay

MONTEVIDEO, Dec 27 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The long and holiday weekend was marked by violence and several homicides in Uruguay, according to press reports.

Several violent crimes took place in the departments of Montevideo, Canelones and Rocha.

A party at the Costa Azul beach resort in Rocha ended with a young man killed in the middle of a fight, for which the prosecutor’s office charged two Argentinian citizens.

In Canelones two individuals entered a store and shot the owner, her partner and her son without saying a word.

Police ask for the collaboration of the population for the capture of Claudio Andrés Cancelo, with several criminal records, who is linked to the triple homicide.

On Christmas Eve, a young man was riddled with bullets in front of his house in Flor de Maroñas, a neighborhood of this capital.

The house was indicated as a place where marijuana was sold.

That same night, in the neighborhood of Peñarol, a teenager was shot in the thorax while playing with her friends.

It is presumed that she was the victim of shots fired by an individual against a moving car.

Christmas Eve was also bad in Puntas de Mangas, Montevideo.

The body of a woman was found there, showing signs of torture.

A few meters further on, in an abandoned house, the police found another body.

It was that of a man whose throat had been slit. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
