COLOMBO, Dec 19 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan authorities have suspended the licences of 400 foreign employment agencies in the past 12 months, for violating the terms of their licences, a minister said, yesterday.
Addressing an event in Colombo, to mark International Migrants Day, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, said, they had also cancelled the licences of 200 foreign employment agencies during the same time.
The minister said, the government has taken steps to improve standards for foreign employment agencies and the services offered by government agencies.
Migrant workers’ remittances are one of the main sources of foreign revenues for Sri Lanka, with over 275,000 Sri Lankans having gone for foreign jobs by the end of Nov.– NNN-XINHUA
