ISTANBUL, Dec 19 (NNN-TRT) – Turkish security forces have rounded up a total of 1,209 illegal immigrants, in the north-western province of Edirne in Nov, it was reported yesterday.
The seized illegal immigrants had been sent to the migration office in Edirne, according to the report, without specifying any details.
Provincial gendarmerie command teams have tightened up inspections in Edirne’s city centre and the surrounding districts, where the illegal immigrants were captured, in an attempt to crack down on illegal immigration.
Edirne, located in Türkiye’s Thrace region, is close to the border with Greece and Bulgaria.
Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, has promised to intensify measures to combat illegal immigration, not only in the country’s largest city of Istanbul, but all other provinces.– NNN-TRT
