UNITED NATIONS, Dec 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held discussion with Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Conference on Trade and Development Rebecca Greenspan and UN Deputy Secretary-General Martin Griffiths the free supply of Russian grain and fertilizer for the world’s most needy countries.
The meeting took place after consultations with the participation of representatives of relevant Russian agencies and companies.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said officials continued to exchange detailed views on tasks to ensure Russia’s access to fertilizer and food without hindrance, taking into account to their significant market share, in order to overcome the crisis in the field of global food security as well as cope with the risk of famine.
In addition, the parties also discussed in detail Russia’s agricultural export activities, which are hindered by unilateral sanctions from Western countries, and also paid attention to humanitarian aid of grain and fertilizer. domestically for the world’s poorest countries.
Meanwhile, Türkiye continues its efforts to revive the Black Sea Grains Initiative.
Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said the country continues to make efforts to restore the above grain export agreement as well as promote an early end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Last July, Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, after saying that the West had not fulfilled its commitment to ensure Russia’s grain and fertilizer exports.
The deal, brokered by the UN and Turkey in 2022, allowed for safe exports of grain and other food from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.
