LIMA, Dec 13 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola announced that a legislative decree has been approved to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking.
The approval came on Monday during the session of the Council of Ministers.
At a press conference, he said that the decree “specifies, updates, and upgrades the function of the police in the fight against illicit drug trafficking,” in addition to strengthening the work of specialized units against this crime.
Likewise, “it incorporates a new list of prohibited and sanctioned psychoactive substances,” in addition to providing a basis for more efficient work regarding the eradication of illicit crops, the intervention against illegal chemical inputs, and the “frontal fight against mafias that are involved in drug trafficking.”
In this regard, Otarola referred to the approval of the urgency decree, which extends the state of emergency in the provinces of Putumayo and Mariscal Ramon Castilla, both located in Loreto region.
This extension is “in accordance with the fight that we have started against illicit drug trafficking,” he said.
The extension of the state of emergency was also approved in the province of Pataz, located in La Libertad region.
In this respect, he affirmed that police agents will continue to be present, adding that a new police base will be opened in said city.
Finally, Otarola announced the approval of a series of benefits for firefighters and their families in aspects such as education and health.
Through this legislative decree, firefighters or their children will be given an additional score to access scholarships and educational credits. Besides, the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) coverage will be extended to their children, spouses and parents,” he concluded. — NNN-ANDINA
