Cuba highlights friendship and cooperation ties with CARICOM

HAVANA, Dec 11 (NNN-ACN) — Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, highlighted the deep friendship and cooperation ties between his country and the members of the Caribbean Community, on the occasion of the celebration of the CARICOM-Cuba Day.

The establishment of diplomatic relations of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago with Cuba was a courageous decision, in a hostile context of attempts of diplomatic isolation imposed by the United States on Havana, the President recalled.

In his message on X, Diaz-Canel added that this event opened the way for ties with the rest of the nations of the Community.

For his part, Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban foreign minister, pointed out that Cuba will never forget the decision of the first four Caribbean countries, which has been enriched by the rest of the CARICOM member states.

As a sign of these strong ties, Cuba is currently the only Latin American country with representation, at the level of its own diplomatic missions, of all the Caribbean countries.

Likewise, there is a Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and CARICOM, in which areas of collaboration such as tourism services, travel, entertainment, transportation, construction, telecommunications and information technology were included in 2017.

According to Havana foreign ministry authorities, the ties that unite Cuba and the Caribbean are based on principles such as mutual respect and independence, and values such as solidarity, friendship, brotherhood and gratitude. — NNN-ACN
