Pakistan’s Weekly Inflation Increases By Over 42 Percent

ISLAMABAD, Dec 10 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), posted an increase of 42.68 percent, on a year-on-year basis, the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed.

The SPI was computed to assess the price movement of essential commodities, and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities of the country, the PBS said.

During the week, out of 51 items, 15 experienced an average price increase, 14 saw a decrease, and 22 remained stable, the PBS said.

The PBS added that, the increase in the SPI was attributed to an increase in the prices of electricity, energy savers, onions, eggs, sugar, mustard oil, mutton and pulses, among others.

On the other hand, a decrease was recorded in the prices of chicken, tomatoes, potatoes, tea, and diesel, during the same period.– NNN-APP
