NEW DELHI, Nov 28 (NNN-PTI) – At least four people were killed and another one was injured critically, after lightning struck them in the central India state of Madhya Pradesh, officials said.
The deaths took place on Sunday.
According to officials, heavy rains and thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning strikes lashed several parts of the state on Sunday evening.
“Last evening lightning struck a couple and their minor son, when they were on a motorbike in Dhar district. The husband-wife duo was killed on the spot, while their son was critically injured,” an official said.
“Separately a man was killed when lightning struck him, while he was working in his field in Jhabua district. Likewise, a woman was killed in a lightning strike in Barwani district,” the official added.
In the adjacent state of Gujarat, at least 24 people were killed and 23 others injured, due to lightning and rain-related incidents during the past 48 hours.
Every year, with the onset of monsoon season, hundreds die in lightning incidents in India. Local media reports said, 907 people were killed by lightning strikes across India in 2022.– NNN-PTI
