LIMA, Nov 26 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Saturday announced that a national specialized protection program for girls, boys, and adolescents, in situation of risk and lack of protection, will operate in 2024; it will be managed by the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP).
She said that the program will begin in 2024, relying on a S/60 million (about US$16.09 million) budget. It will serve 25 judicial districts and then gradually increase until it reaches every region nationwide.
The Head of State indicated that the aforementioned program is expected to benefit more than 87,000 girls, boys, and adolescents per year.
The announcement was made by Boluarte during her participation in the “Let’s act now! Let’s save girls from sexual violence” campaign on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The president stressed that this date is a reason to raise the voice on an issue that her administration strongly rejects.
“We will never again tolerate sexual violence against girls, against boys, or against our adolescents,” she expressed.
In this sense, the top official reported that the Executive Branch will seek to increase penalties to punish rapists of minors.
Boluarte also said she hopes that, when her term in office ends in 2026, her administration can leave the country’s children and adolescents better protected. — NNN-ANDINA
