Nearly 900 migrants rescued by Moroccan navy, one drowned

RABAT, Nov 24 (NNN-XINHUA) — The Moroccan navy on Thursday intercepted and rescued 76 illegal immigrants on board an inflatable boat off the Atlantic coast, the official news agency MAP reported.

A Moroccan navy unit on Thursday intercepted the boat near the Laayoune port while heading toward Spain’s Canary Islands, the MAP quoted a military source as saying.

After receiving necessary medical care, the rescued migrants of sub-Saharan African nationalities, including 15 women and three minors, were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie in the Laayoune port for the usual administrative procedures, the source added. — NNN-XINHUA
