LIMA, Nov 23 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Energy and Mines Minister Oscar Vera Gargurevich stressed that 19 mining concession projects, equivalent to US$955 million, have been approved between September and October 2023.
His remarks were delivered during the presentation of the fifth administration report by the Executive Branch at the Government Palace in Lima.
“Regarding the mining sector, 19 benefit, exploration, and exploitation mining concession projects have been approved worth more than US$955 million between September and October. This is significant, because we know this investment (positively) impacts the economy,” Gargurevich said.
“Similarly, from September 1 to October 31, environmental certification has been granted to 10 mining exploration projects, which represent a joint investment of US$157 million,” he added.
Likewise, the minister pointed out that the environmental certification for La Zanja mining project —located in the northern Andean region of Cajamarca and whose investment is US$114.3 million— was approved on Oct 18.
On the other hand, the Energy and Mines sector’s head highlighted the progress made in achieving the massive use of natural gas in Peru.“300 additional km of network have already been completed in the last two months, totaling 790 km out of a commitment of 1,000 km. These have been built in the regions of Piura, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima, Callao, and Ica,” he said.
Furthermore, he affirmed that agreements have been signed with the regional governments of Cusco, Ayacucho, and Huancavelica.
Gargurevich also remarked that his ministry and regional governments have practically initiated the natural gas massive use project in said regions, adding that more agreements are about to be signed with the regions of Apurimac, Puno, Junin, and Ucayali. — NNN-ANDINA
