KIGALI, Nov 22 (NNN-ACN) — Paul Kagame, head of state of Rwanda, received in Urugwiro Village the vice president of Cuba, Salvador Valdes Mesa, who is carrying out the first working day of his official visit to the African nation.
During the meeting, both parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, reported the Rwandan Presidency in a message on X, where it highlighted the long-standing relations between the two countries, especially in education and health sectors.
According to the Cuban Presidency on the same social network, Valdes Mesa thanked the Rwandan president for his country’s support in the fight against the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade.
Kagame highlighted the example of resilience that Cuba represents for Rwanda, and affirmed that Havana will always count on the friendship and support of African countries, which feel its closeness.
Cuban vice president also met on Monday with Kalinda Francois Xavier, president of the Rwandan Senate, to whom he ratified the willingness of the Cuban Parliament to work to strengthen economic and political relations between the two countries.
The senior Rwandan official considered that Valdes Mesa’s visit is the beginning of a new moment in the long period of bilateral relations that the two nations have faced and will continue facing.
Valdes Mesa heads a Cuban delegation on a tour through Africa that since Nov 13 has also visited Ghana, Guinea-Bissau and Ethiopia. — NNN-ACN
