HANOI, Nov 22 (NNN-VNA) – The Philippines was the largest rice importer of Vietnam in Oct, followed by Indonesia, VnExpress reported, citing the Vietnam Food Association.
Cote d’Ivoire, in third position, imported 62,000 tonnes of rice worth 37.5 million U.S. dollars from Vietnam in Oct, the report said, yesterday.
Ghana and Malaysia also massively increased imports of Vietnamese rice, reaching 46,470 tonnes and 40,728 tonnes, respectively, putting them in the fourth and fifth spots.
Compared to Sept, the two countries imported 20-30 percent more rice.
Early this month, the prices of Vietnamese export rice soared to the highest level in the past decade. The country’s rice export turnover also recorded a new peak, in the first 10 months of this year.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported more than 7.1 million tonnes of rice, worth four billion dollars, during the cited period, up 35 percent in value and 17 percent in volume, year on year.– NNN-VNA
