ZANZIBAR, Nov 19 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi, has invited investors from Romania to come and invest in the isles’ blue economy because there are still many untapped opportunities in the sector.
Dr Mwinyi extended the invitation when he met and had a luncheon with the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at the Zanzibar State House.
He informed President Iohannis that Zanzibar has prioritised blue economy for development.
“We welcome investors from Romania to invest in tourism and other sectors. We have conducive climate for investment,” Dr Mwinyi said, adding that the Isles economic growth and future prosperity relies on investment in the blue economy.
Dr Mwinyi invited the government and companies from Romania to come to Zanzibar and explore various opportunities, pledging that the government will grant them full support.
President Klaus who opted to ferry to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam was received at the Malindi Port by the State Minister (State House) Jamal Kassim Ali, after disembarking from Kilimanjaro VIII boat, he witnessed traditional dance at the seaport.
President Mwinyi talked about the need to strengthen ties with Romania in various areas, including sharing experience, trade and investments.
The Romanian President praised the willingness to improve good relations with Zanzibar, saying that both countries are enjoying admirable growth in democracy and that they have similar historical backgrounds.
President Iohannis said that the countries have long-term cooperation and friendship, which next year marks 60 years since its diplomatic establishment.
He said that Zanzibar has been a favourite place for investors and Romania welcomes the invitation to its companies and that cooperation will be possible due to hospitality and culture.
“We are happy to strengthen relations with Zanzibar and Tanzania in general. Tourism, cultural heritage and other areas of development,” the Romanian President said while admiring Zanzibar’s Development 2050 Vision.
He also welcomed the idea of involving Romanian companies in the ‘Silicon Zanzibar’ at Fumba free economic zone. Silicon Zanzibar is a public-private initiative to attract and relocate tech companies and workers from across Africa and beyond to the island of Zanzibar.
He promised to convey the message to investors in his country to travel to Zanzibar and explore the various opportunities in Zanzibar.
President Iohannis arrived in the country on Thursday for a four-day state visit. His visit is part of a larger tour spanning four African nations, including Kenya, Cape Verde and Senegal, underscoring Romania’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with the African continent.
President Iohannis’s tour is strategically designed to reinforce Romania’s diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Africa.
President Iohannis met with Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan on Friday at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
During their talks, the two leaders agreed to continue taking collaborative measures to deepen their ties in strategic areas for mutual benefit of both nations.
Their discussions, according to President Samia, centred on various issues of importance to both nations, including ways to increase trade and investments.
“The Tanzania-Romania relationship began in May 1964 and Romania has become our partner as a country as well as an EU member.
“This visit is very important for the relationship between our two countries, this is the first tour by a head of state from Romania to Tanzania,” President Samia said.
The two Heads of State also witnessed the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), the first one between the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania which particularly aim to promote cooperation in the areas of disaster management and international humanitarian.
The second one was between Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Science (AFS). This is to promote and encourage economic, scientific and technical cooperation in the field of agriculture and environment. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
