YANGON, Nov 19 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar authorities seized a large amount of firearms and ammunition in eastern Myanmar’s Shan state and arrested seven suspects, the state-run daily, The Mirror, reported on Saturday.
The confiscated arsenal comprises 130 firearms, including rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns and rifles, and ammunition, including 7,632 bombs, 13,670 bullets, 1,829 magazines, 950 kilograms of TNT powder, and 200 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, the media report said.
The operation was initiated based on a tip-off that led to the capture of an initial suspect, in Lwetet village of Panglong township on Thursday.
Following an investigation into the detained suspect, authorities subsequently seized the weapons and ammunition, along with five additional suspects, at a building in Panmont village of Panglong township, the media report said.
Additionally, a fleeing individual who had mainly transported firearms and ammunition to Kayah state was also arrested on Friday, the media report said.
The arrested suspects said that, they were tasked by the KNPP and PDF groups in Kayah state, to transport the weapons and ammunition.– NNN-MNA
