Roadside Bomb Kills Pro-Government Soldier, Injures Nine In Yemen’s Aden

ADEN, Yemen, May 12 (NNN-SABA) – A roadside bomb killed a pro-government soldier and wounded nine, in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, Saturday, a security official said.

The bomb exploded near a two-vehicle convoy of the newly-recruited pro-government troops in Dar Sad district, moving towards the northern parts of Aden Province, killing a 30-year-old soldier and injuring seven of his fellows, the official said.

Shrapnel also hurt two civilian passers-by, the official added.

Police authorities in Aden blamed the deadly incident on the insurgents of the Yemen-based al-Qaeda branch, saying, they seek to create unrest and destabilise the situation in the city.

Aden, where the Yemeni government has been based since 2015, witnesses sporadic security incidents, despite efforts of the newly-recruited security forces to contain them.

The Yemeni government, allied with the Saudi-led Arab military coalition, has been battling Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels, for the control of the country for more than four years.– NNN-SABA
