HARARE, Nov 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Twenty-two people died when a mini bus collided head-on with a heavy truck on the night of Tuesday on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge road near Bulawayo – Zimbabwe’s second largest city, Zimbabwe police said.
The accident also injured two other people. At the time of the collision, the bus was carrying 21 passengers, while the truck was carrying 1 passenger.
Zimbabwe’s largest daily newspaper – The Herald reported that all 22 people on the mini bus, including the driver, died on the spot in the accident, while 2 people on the truck were injured.
Zimbabwean authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
Earlier a day, police confirmed two fatal road traffic accidents which led to the death of nine people.
He said one of the accidents occurred at the 7th km along Eastern Border Road, Chipinge on Monday in which three people were killed whilst three others were injured.
The other one killed six people whilst three were injured at the 180th km along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.
This means that 31 people perished in just less than 24 hours due to accidents. Road accidents are mainly caused by dilapidated roads due to decades of negligence. — NNN-AGENCIES
