PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Nov 16 (NNN-ANA) – The construction of a major road has entered the stage of asphalting, outside the capital city, Pul-e-Khumri of north Afghanistan’s Baghlan province, Abdul Matin Akhundzadeh, head of the provincial economy department, said, yesterday.
The asphalting work began on Tuesday for the road project funded by the local government. The project, at a cost of 72 million afghanis (about one million U.S. dollars), is building a road that is 2,177 metres long, and nine metres wide, to link the provincial capital to the province’s Doshi district, the official added.
In another development, local authorities began on Sunday, asphalting a road in Charikar city, the capital of east Afghanistan’s Parwan province.
In efforts to rebuild the war-ravaged country, the Afghan caretaker government, besides launching a variety of development projects, has also called for investments from home and abroad, to create job opportunities for the poverty-stricken Afghan people.– NNN-ANA
