PETALING JAYA, Nov 15 (Bernama) — FDCV Group Sdn Bhd, a leading Architectural company recently celebrated its 13th anniversary with over 11 hospitals, four hotels, and over 160 residential and commercial projects worth over RM1 billion. Founder Damon Kok said, “While we also shine in residential and commercial projects, healthcare projects are especially close to my heart.” He added, “Architects play an important role in the healthcare industry because hospital architecture can significantly contribute to the healing process. Medical officers work under immense pressure to save lives while patients go to medical establishments to seek treatment when they are unwell. The environment needs to be one that supports the comfort and safety of healthcare workers, patients, and carers of patients. We design spaces with natural light, calming colours, and pleasant aesthetics to reduce stress and anxiety among patients, leading to better recovery outcomes.”
Another key factor is the design flow of the hospital – the patient flow, the staff flow, and the workflow need to be optimized for all parties to move about quickly and with ease. Compliance to the requirements of local authorities, profitable spaces, as well as different materials and requirements to house advanced medical equipment, and many technical aspects, need to be considered. Damon said, “The pandemic had taught us to explore having isolation rooms at the Accidents and Emergency department and that mechanical and electrical solutions should ensure that exhaust from these rooms travel directly outdoors to avoid in-building contamination. All these sets of study would be applied to expansion of current hospitals and future new hospitals.
