SAN FRANCISCO (US), Nov 15 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte has arrived in San Francisco, United States, to participate in the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

The Peruvian Air Force airplane carrying the Head of State landed at San Francisco International Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, the top official was welcomed by a U.S. government protocol official; Peruvian Presidential Office Protocol Director Jaime Cacho-Sousa; and the General Consul of Peru in the North American country.

On Nov 9, Congress approved the draft legislative resolution that authorizes President Boluarte to leave the national territory from Nov 14 to 18.

The purpose of this authorization is for the Head of State to participate in the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

Within this framework, Peru will receive the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the APEC forum.

Peru will exercise the Presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum for the third time in 2024.

Under its presidency, more than 160 meetings of various levels will be held in five Peruvian regions.

Peru assumed the APEC Presidency for the first time in 2008.

The Presidents of the United States, George W. Bush; China, Hu Jintao; Russia, Dmitri Medvedev; and the Prime Minister of Japan, Taro Aso; among other leaders; arrived in the South American country to attend the APEC Forum Leaders’ Summit back then.

According to estimates, the 2008 APEC forum generated US$18 million in revenue from food consumption, tourism, hotels, and various purchases.

Approximately 12,000 delegates participated in the 128 meetings held during the Peruvian Presidency.

In 2016, Peru assumed the Presidency of APEC for the second time.

For the Leaders’ Summit, the heads of state and government of the 21 economies that are part of this trade bloc arrived in the country, including the Presidents of the United States, Barack Obama; Russia, Vladimir Putin; China, Xi Jinping; as well as Prime Ministers of Japan, Shinzo Abe; and Canada, Justin Trudeau.

Personalities such as billionaire Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg; Chinese businessman and Alibaba e-commerce website founder Jack Ma; as well as more than 1,300 businesspeople also landed in Peru for this event.

During this Presidency, more than 160 technical and sectoral meetings were held, with the participation of 15,000 delegates.

Pres Boluarte announced that more than 160 meetings will be held in Peruvian cities of Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Trujillo, and Pucallpa during the APEC 2024 forum.

The highest authorities and leaders of the forum’s 21 member economies, senior executives of the main companies in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as thousands of delegates and representatives will arrive in Peru for those meetings.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this will generate the creation of temporary jobs and have a positive impact on various local and regional economies —particularly in the accommodation, food, transportation sectors, and other services linked to the organization of the events.

The APEC is made up of: Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; the Philippines; the Russian Federation; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Vietnam.

Together, they account for 62% of world’s GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the population. — NNN-ANDINA
