Croatia dismissed the Minister of Defense who was seriously injured in a road accident

ZAGREB, Nov 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic dismissed Mario Banozic as Defense Minister, after a car crash left Banozic seriously injured and a driver killed.

Responding at a press conference, Plenkovic confirmed that Banozic is hospitalized with serious injuries. The Croatian Prime Minister expressed concern about Banozic’s condition and decided to dismiss him from his position as Defense Minister.

The incident occurred when Banozic was in his private car leaving the town of Vinkovci, about 276km east of the capital Zagreb. His car crashed into a truck. The driver of the truck died in the collision. Banozic suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to Croatian Government spokesman Marko Milic, doctors said Banozic’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Banozic was born in 1979 and has led the Croatian Ministry of Defense since 2020. — NNN-AGENCIES
