BRUSSELS, Nov 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Belgian police discovered and seized nearly 700 kg of cocaine when inspecting a truck at a highway rest area near the port city of Antwerp.
On Sunday, Belgian prosecutors said the Bulgarian truck driver, 46 years old, was arrested and detained after police seized the above amount of cocaine.
Specifically, in the incident that occurred on Nov 10, police discovered 698 kg of cocaine stuffed in sports bags inside the container on the truck. The Antwerp prosecutor’s office stated that this amount of cocaine will be destroyed as soon as possible.
The port in Antwerp is one of the main gateways used by crime rings to smuggle cocaine from South America into Europe. Authorities often detect smuggled cocaine at or around this port. The record for the most seized drugs is 110 tons of drugs in 2022. — NNN-AGENCIES
