Peru President: ‘Operation Shelter’ to tackle frost in the country

PUNO (Peru), May 11 (NNN-ANDINA) — President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed the Multisectoral Plan against Frost and Cold Spell —named Operation Shelter— will enable an adequate fight against extreme cold affecting southern Andean areas in the country.

The Head of State indicated a new cold season is close, thus, it is necessary to protect the population. For instance, the Health Ministry has provided vaccines for children and seniors.

“We arrived very early in Puno, joined by four ministers, to launch this campaign for the entire Andean south to adequately tackle frost and cold,” he expressed.

Likewise, the top official pointed out the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry has been developing an intense campaign to transport fodder for animals, which are also affected by low temperatures

“Additionally, we keep working on warm houses,” the statesman added.
President Vizcarra explained that out of the 50,000 warm houses needed across the south, 20,000 will be built in Puno region.

In this sense, he said 50,000 houses —aimed at protecting citizens from extreme cold— will have been built by 2021 —the Independence Bicentennial. — NNN-ANDINA
