India’s Ayodhya Set Record By Lighting Over 2.2 Million Earthen Lamps On Diwali Eve

NEW DELHI, Nov 12 (NNN-PTI) – Ayodhya city, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, yesterday set a record, by lighting over 2.2 million earthen oil lamps during Deepotsav celebrations, on the eve of Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights, officials said.

The earthen lamps illuminated the 51 ghats of the temple city located on the bank of the Saryu River.

With the record number of lamps, Ayodhya set a new Guinness World Record for lighting lamps in such a large number.

“Ayodhya creates history yet again, with a total count of 2,223,000 earthen lamps lit during Deepotsav,” a brief statement issued by Uttar Pradesh’s tourism department said.

The lamps were lined in rows on the banks of the Saryu River. Many people posted photos of the grand lighting on social media platforms. Happy Diwali to all Hindus!– NNN-PTI
