DAR ES SALAAM, Nov 11 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) has signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (GMEO) from South Korea to implement the Korea e-Learning Improvement Cooperation (KLIC) project.
The project is expected to further strengthen the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning.
According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, (Science), Professor James Mdoe (Science), said the agreement has come at the right time, when the ministry is expected to implement a new curriculum in 2024.
“The new curriculum largely emphasises on the use of ICTs in teaching and learning…thus, the training provided to teachers and academicians through this project and the IT equipment provided will enable students to acquire the intended competence,” Prof Mdoe said at the signing ceremony that was held in Dar es Salaam.
In particular, Prof Mdoe noted that, a four-year agreement will focus on three areas which are the provision of on-the-job training for teachers, the provision of IT equipment for learning and teaching, and the exchange programme for students and volunteering teachers.
“These areas are important in promoting education and empowering our teachers and students to have a positive attitude in using IT in teaching and learning,” he added.
TIE Managing Director, Dr Aneth Komba, noted that the agreement, which was signed for the first time in 2021, has made a great contribution to strengthening the use of ICTs in teaching and learning.
“This collaboration has so far helped to strengthen the teachers’ understanding on the use of ICTs in teaching and learning,” she underscored.
Adding: “In the first phase of this project, we implemented a project called Korea e-Learning Improvement Cooperation (KLIC) in 2021-2022, under this project a total of 50 academicians and 40 teachers from Kimbiji and Tegeta A received online training on how to prepare, create and use online content in teaching and learning.”
She further noted that in the financial year 2023/24, two schools will benefit, namely Mkombozi primary school and Mabatini Secondary school both located in Njombe Town Council, Njombe Region.
For his part, Governor for GMEO, Lee Jeong Seon said it is high time for the country to embrace the use of ICT in teaching and learning, while saying GMEO is ready to collaborate with Tanzania in various areas including ICTs and Artificial Intelligence (AI). — NNN-DAILYNEWS
