A woman is killed every two hours in Peru – Statistics

LIMA, Nov 11 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Ministry of Women’s count regarding femicides committed in the first nine months of 2023 showed on Friday that a woman is killed every two hours in Peru by her partner or former partner.

Statistics released by that agency revealed that from January to September, 122 women were victims of crimes involving gender violence and in the same term there were 192 attempted murders of women.

The reports displayed that in the last seven years 955 women were killed and 1,939 survived attempts to murder them in Peru.

Meanwhile, in 74 cases out of 122 femicides registered up to Sept 30, the criminal was the victim’s partner, in 21 the murderer had been the victim’s partner, and in a high percentage the homicide was perpetrated in the victim’s home.

In view of this serious problem, women’s and human rights’ organizations consider it necessary to redouble prevention and timely and effective assistance to women in danger. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
