ULAN BATOR, Nov 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – Several Mongolian provinces have banned the movement of motorcycle until next spring, amid harsh weather conditions, local media reported, today.
Provinces such as Bayan-Ulgii, Govi-Altai and Bayankhongor in the west, Dundgovi and Dornogovi in the south, as well as, Bulgan in the north imposed the ban on the movement of motorcycle until Mar next year, to prevent motorcycle-related accidents.
The move came after heavy snow and snow storms hit large parts of the country last week, killing eight nomadic herders.
Nearly 60 percent of the Mongolian territory has so far been covered in snow, according to the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring.
Official figures show that, there are now around 55,000 registered motorcycles across Mongolia, with over 80 percent in rural areas.– NNN-XINHUA
