LIMA, Nov 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — Representatives of various United States Government agencies met virtually with leaders of Peruvian private and government sectors with the purpose of promoting and fostering US investment into the South American country, the US Embassy in Lima reported on Wednesday.

This event was inaugurated with the welcoming words by US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires John McNamara, who highlighted the sound commercial relationship between both countries, consolidated since the Trade Promotion Agreement —signed in 2006— came into force in 2009.

McNamara underscored the importance of this collaboration, which has eliminated tariffs on more than 90% of U.S. exports to Peru, strengthening intellectual property protections and providing a safe legal framework for investors.

The dialogue aimed to present Peru to a wide range of U.S. Government agencies and programs that can support foreign direct investment into the South American country.

This collaboration is essential for Peru’s economic growth, improved competitiveness, and equitable social development —especially in the context of an infrastructure gap estimated at US$110 billion over the next two decades.

The event was attended by representatives of various United States Government agencies, including the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), the Foreign Commercial Service (FCS)USAID Peru, and the State Department Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs.

Meanwhile, the United States and Peru ratified a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Environmental Protection, the U.S. Embassy in Lima reported on Wednesday.

The memorandum —signed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Peru’s Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) aims to continue and strengthen cooperation in environmental compliance and enforcement.

The signing of the document took place as part of the visit to Peru by Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of International and Tribal Affairs (OITA), Jane Nishida.

Nishida said that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency looks forward to continuing the partnership with the OEFA and working together to fulfill shared goals —particularly for vulnerable communities in both countries.

Cooperation areas include the promotion of efficient environmental supervision that includes native, indigenous, Afro-Peruvian communities, and vulnerable populations; the use of advanced technologies for environmental monitoring and innovative strategies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations; among others.

Similarly, the memorandum represents a mutual commitment to protect the environment and promote sustainable development for the benefit of both nations.

Through this cooperation, both countries seek to strengthen environmental management and compliance with environmental laws in Peru and the United States, contributing to the protection of human health and the natural environment. — NNN-ANDINA
