East Japan Sees Record High Autumn Temperatures

TOKYO, Nov 8 (NNN-NHK) – Many places in east Japan, or the country’s Kanto region, have been experiencing unseasonably high temperatures for autumn, since the start of this month, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Temperatures in central Tokyo reached a daytime high of 27.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, making it the hottest Nov day in the city, since the record began in 1923, reported the weather agency.

It was the third summerlike day Tokyo experienced this month, with temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius or higher, and the 143rd such day this year, renewing the annual record.

According to the JMA, the unusual temperatures in the Kanto region, including Tokyo, was influenced by low pressure and warm air streams.

Nationwide, about 30 observation points renewed their Nov record highs, including Yokohama, south of Tokyo, with 27.3 degrees Celsius, said the JMA.

As high temperatures linger, the estimated peak season for viewing autumn foliage in east Japan starts about a week later than in previous years, said the weather agency, noting that, the hot autumn weather is expected to ease after today.– NNN-NHK
