Peru: New Foreign Affairs Minister sworn in

LIMA, Nov 8 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Tuesday afternoon administered the oath of office to Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea Franco, who has become the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

Gonzalez-Olaechea Franco replaces Ana Cecilia Gervasi Diaz, who stepped down from the post on Monday.

During the ceremony, held at the Government Palace, the new Foreign Affairs Minister swore that he will perform his duties without committing corruption.

The event saw the participation of Cabinet Chief Alberto Otarola, State ministers, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi.

Gonzalez-Olaechea is a political and international relations expert.

Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Monday afternoon confirmed the resignation of Gervasi Diaz from the post of Foreign Affairs Ministe, who had been serving as the sector’s head since Dec 10, 2022.

Peruvian career diplomat, Gustavo Meza-Cuadra, also resigned from the position of Peruvian Ambassador to the United States.

His resignation was tendered on Monday and made public a few minutes after Ana Cecilia Gervasi had stepped down from the post of Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs. — NNN-ANDINA
