Pakistan Cancels Over 18,000 Illegal Identity Cards

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has cancelled over 18,000 illegal identity cards, through its robust monitoring and corrective mechanism, NADRA said.

“NADRA is resorting to stringent rectification measures, through better coordination with other stakeholders and strict internal scrutiny,” NADRA said in a press statement.

Newly introduced measures include, biometric verification of parents and blood relatives, during processing, informing head of the family through SMS, two-factor authentication for data access, and an improved internal oversight, said the statement.

These efforts have resulted in proactive identification and mitigation of mala fide attempts, for the issuance of illegal identity cards, it added.

It further said that, disciplinary measures have been taken against violators and facilitators, and the process of departmental accountability and inquiry has been further streamlined.

Up to 30 percent of internal inquiry has been concluded, resulting in a termination and major penalties for defaulters, according to NADRA.– NNN-APP
