TRIPOLI, May 11 (NNN-TAP) – Two bodies recovered from among those who died by drowning in an attempt at irregular migration were transferred Friday afternoon to the forensic department at Habib Bourguiba University Hospital in Sfax.

At least 70 migrants died on Friday morning, following the sinking of their boat, in international waters more than 40 miles off Sfax. Sixteen people were rescued by fishing vessels located in the vicinity of the accident site.

A source from the hospital told TAP that the examination of the bodies will take place on Saturday morning due to the lack of medical staff in the forensic medicine department.

A third body was found and transferred with the 16 survivors to Zarzis.

According to other consistent sources, the number of deaths is expected to increase, claiming that research is ongoing.
