US gun violence: 1 dead, 5 injured after shooting in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (Ohio, US), Nov 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — One person has died, and five others were injured Friday evening after a shooting involving juveniles in Cincinnati, Ohio, police said.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m., according to Police Chief Teresa Theetge of the Cincinnati Police Department.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and the rest were transported to local area hospitals. Some of the victims are juveniles, but their ages are not yet known, police said.

According to local Cincinnati news outlet WLWT, a heavy police presence responded to the shooting which took place on Betton Street, in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati, around 9:30 p.m.

It is not immediately clear why the shooting started, and Cincinnati police have not provided any information on a possible suspect or suspects at this time.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval called the shooting a horrific tragedy on his Twitter account.

“Children were shot,” Pureval wrote. “At least one life was lost. Our friends and neighbors are feeling unimaginable fear, trauma and anger.

“Right now, I’m asking for your prayers. We will keep you updated as our officers continue their investigation. But I promise this: we will give everything we have to deliver justice against this sickening, heartless violence.” — NNN-AGENCIES
