ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani caretaker Minister for National Food Security and Research, Kausar Abdullah Malik, said that, his country has been taking steps to ensure water security for economic development, improving the agricultural sector as well as, food security.
“It is the need of the hour to raise awareness among the public about the importance of water and water security … water security is the secret of our bright and successful future,” Malik said, while addressing a seminar yesterday.
He said that, water security is deeply intertwined with climate security, adding that, water risks are intensifying around the world, as climate change tightens its grip and shocks the planet’s hydrological system.
Although water is essential for human life, forests, agriculture and all living things, many parts of the world today are deeply insecure in this regard, he added.
Highlighting that efforts are being made to protect water, to achieve sustainable development in Pakistan, Malik said that, the government is working on laser land levelling to utilise a minimum quantity of water in the irrigation sector.
“In the new era of water risk, governments, businesses, water users and people from all sectors related to water, must use all resources and effective measures to protect water,” the minister said.– NNN-APP
