Death Toll Rises To Six In India’s Train Mishap

NEW DELHI, Oct 30 (NNN-PTI) – At least six people were killed and 18 others injured, in a train mishap, which occurred in India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh last night, local media reported.

According to official sources, the train mishap happened between Alamanda and Kantakapalle, in the northern part of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and took note of the situation.

“Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. The prime minister extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon,” Modi said.

The injured were being admitted to local hospitals, and Vaishnaw said that, all passengers “have been rescued and the situation is under control.”

The mishap occurred when a Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train collided with a Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train, according to India Today.

The collision led to the derailment of three coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train, an Indian Railways official was quoted as saying.– NNN-PTI
